News Flash - Paradigm wins again

Paradigm won the public vote for best layout at the Ballarat exhibition, June long weekend 2006

Who we are

We started in 1989 as a small group of modellers with similar interests based at the home of one member who had built a layout. At that time we were known as the Reynella Model Railroaders and we first displayed our layout in November 1990 at the Reynella Fair.

The formation of an incorporated club followed in 1994. The Noarlunga Model Railroaders Incorporated was formed with a charter to promote the hobby. The membership has steadily grown with many active members, from very young in age to the young in heart, each with their own specialty giving our club a very diverse expertise and membership base.

The club is proud to have its own clubrooms on the historical site of the former Reynella Railway Station, Old Reynella. (See map) Julie Grieg MP officially opened our clubrooms on 6th December 1998.

We are currently constructing a permanent 15 x 6.5 Metre HO/OO layout. We also have a display layout known as Paradigm, and in addition some members have built their own layouts. All of these different layouts show what can be achieved.

Model railways are never finished and ours are no exception. There is often some addition or alteration happening to the layouts, and all members are encouraged to help and learn through this work.

All types of HO/OO trains are accepted both in prototype and quality, straight from the box, to modified or scratch built. There are plenty of members who are both willing and able to help with these last two aspects; this is just one of the many benefits of a club membership.

At the moment, our layouts have wiring for normal DC but plans are in progress to add DCC capability alongside so that we will be able to run both on all layouts.

Feel free to call in to the clubrooms, talk to some members and see what we are all about. Members are kept informed of developments and plans with our monthly newsletter Right On Track.

What we do

We welcome new members to join us at any time.

We organise and run swapmeets during the year to allow members and the public to sell unwanted railway items and to buy that elusive spare part or loco.

During October every second year (even years) we organise a model railway exhibition in the southern suburbs of Adelaide to help promote our hobby.

We display Paradigm at exhibitions and small displays, such as fairs and fetes in both South Australia and interstate.

We support the St. Johns Ambulance volunteers with donations of funds from the proceeds from our exhibitions and swapmeets

We create and develop fellowship and friendship through our shared enthusiasm for our hobby.

Would you like us to be a part of your event or put on a display for you? If so, contact us to find out how we can help you.

Club Open Hours

We are open: Tuesdays from 7:30 pm

Saturdays from 2:00 pm

Other times by appointment

Members can run any type of train that will suit the HO/OO two-rail track of our layouts. It is possible to see a train from almost anywhere in the world on running days. Kids are most welcome to both visit and join the club but an adult must accompany the very young.
